Welcome to the website of India Club at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology

The India Club at SDSM&T was established in 1985. Its purpose is to promote interaction among students and the community. Regular membership is open to any SDSM&T student or faculty member. 

Summer Activity : Barbeque at Canyon Lake

Spring semester is over and summer is here now. Summer always brings bright sunny days which allow us to get involved in outdoor activities. We have planned an outdoor BBQ get together to welcome summer. Also, some students have graduated during the spring convocation and so this could also be an opportunity for you to congratulate them.

Let's meet at Canyon Lake Park this Sunday, 20th May 2012 (2.00 PM onwards) for the BBQ and other outdoor activities. We can also play games like volleyball and Frisbee. Please feel free if you want to cook something and bring there. We will arrange for BBQ, soda and snacks.
We can do carpool to pick you from a designated location. So, please let us know if you want a ride.

Fun Time!!! The festival season is here and so is the celebration. On Saturday 29th November 2011, India Club hosted the potluck dinner in lieu of  " Diwali - The festival of lights " which was on 26th November. Indian faculty members and students actively participated in the event. Everyone had a gala time meeting each other and relishing the grand feast. Apart from a variety of Indian food to binge on, people had a nice time listening to Indian songs in the background. India Club thanks all the members for cooking delicious dishes. Thanks everyone for making it to the event. Your presence truly made it special!!.

The Office Bearers for the term 2011-2012 are here!! Like every year, the baton of  " INDIA CLUB " responsibilities was passed on to the new office bearers. India Club wishes  the people who took the challenge.  The new office will be working towards organizing and conducting various India Club activities in the fall 2011, spring 2012 and summer 2012 semesters, including the much awaited and grand daddy of all- " Diwali 2012 " ,which will be celebrated on the 19th of November.

India Club receives SD BoR Award for Community Service

The India Club received the South Dakota Board of Regents 2009 Organizational Award for Community Service, today. The award was given by the president, SD Board of Regents. The award was received on behalf of the India Club by Praveen Kolla (president), Srujan Mishra (webmaster), Aditya Bhalla (cultural coordinator) and Dr. Rajesh Shende (faculty advisor). Here is an abstract from the ceremony:

Community Service--India Club
The School of Mines Student Chapter of the India Club is one of the largest student organizations on campus, with over 65 graduate, undergraduate and faculty members. The primary goal of the organization is to help new international students from India adapt to American culture and to share their culture on campus. The India Club was established in 1985. They are involved in organizing various cultural events including Diwali, the festival of lights. From cooking food for 500 guests, and arranging for a two-hour cultural showcase, the India Club members have made Diwali into a large campus-community event.  The India Club also participates in the Cultural Expo held each spring. Their community service activities include participation in the National Library Week at the Rapid City Public Library, the Cultural Extravaganza at the Rapid City Chamber of Commerce, the H1N1 vaccine administration at Rapid City Regional Health, volunteering at the Cornerstone Rescue Mission, and collaborating with International Students Inc. to assist all international students.
